ABB + Samotics partnership

Condition monitoring made simple - no matter how you deploy it

ABB and Samotics are making ESA easier to deploy – offered both as the standalone SAM4 system and, through an early adopters program, built into ABB’s ACS880 drives. Same trusted insights, now with more ways to roll out.

Keeping pumps, fans or conveyors running is critical – but spotting faults before failure isn’t always easy.

Condition monitoring often feels out of reach when teams are stretched thin, sites are remote, or installs are complex.

So despite the risks, many teams still fall back on reactive maintenance.

Teams on the ground face real constraints: limited access to remote assets, not enough time to inspect every site, and high effort to roll out sensors at scale.

SAM4 helps reliability teams break that cycle.
It catches faults early, reduces disruption, and makes proactive maintenance practical – whether deployed via ABB drives or standalone sensors.

A shared mission to simplify condition monitoring

Since 2022, ABB and Samotics have partnered to make condition monitoring more accessible and easier to scale. By combining ABB’s global drive platform with Samotics’ proven Electrical Signature Analysis (ESA), the two teams have built a joint solution that delivers reliable motor health insights – whether for new installations or existing infrastructure.

Today, SAM4 is available in two ways: as a standalone system used across thousands of motors, and – through our early adopters program – integrated into ACS880 drives. This dual approach helps teams detect faults early, reduce unplanned downtime, and choose the deployment path that fits their site.

Key benefits

Why this partnership matters

Monitor hard-to-reach equipment

Whether deployed as SAM4 or integrated into ABB drives, the system avoids installing anything directly on the asset itself. Instead, it collects data from the motor control cabinet – making it ideal for hard-to-access, submerged or hazardous environments where traditional sensors are difficult or risky to use.

Get real-time alerts on electrical and mechanical degradation – such as bearing wear, rotor faults, and misalignment – long before they cause breakdowns. This early warning allows maintenance teams to plan ahead and avoid costly emergency repairs or unplanned downtime.

Use the ABB drive as your sensor. With Samotics’ ESA technology built in, the drive captures high-quality electrical data to monitor motor and drivetrain health – no external sensors, cabling or installation needed. Get instant visibility into both the drive and the equipment it powers, including pumps, fans and conveyors.

Deploy monitoring across more assets with less effort. Whether you’re upgrading to ACS880 or retrofitting older drives, this built-in approach makes it easy to roll out predictive maintenance fleet-wide.

Case study

Early fault detection in submerged pumps without any physical access

A clear example is our work with a small drinking water utility. By monitoring submerged motors, ESA technology detected early signs of mechanical imbalance – issues that were previously completely invisible – helping avoid a repeat failure that had once caused €120,000 in damage.

By providing visibility without any sensor installation, the system gave operators the confidence to act early – reducing risk, increasing uptime, and strengthening the case for future scale-up.

Join our limited early adopters list

We’re now opening up a limited early adopters program for industrial teams who want to be first in line to use the integrated solution in the field. This group will get priority access to the technology after the official launch in November. This means you will be up and running before the end of the year.

Spots are limited, so if you’re interested in joining the early adopters list, please leave your details via the form below.
